Vanua’aku Pati establishment retains right to use party name, court rules

The news of the day is the confirmation the Vanua’aku Pati (VP) old guard has retained the right to use the VP name. Daily Post has a full page cover story complete with colour photo of the Natapei executive doing a ‘Seli Hoo’ routine. It was an historic occasion for the VP. The timing of the judgement had been delayed, but at 7pm yesterday on the eve of election candidacies closing, the wait was over. Harry Iauko cannot run his campaign under the VP banner. Daily Post says he is now calling his party Harry Iauko and Group.

Radio Vanuatu News wasn’t able to report the VP story this morning, for “technical reasons” — is the outgoing Government censoring the news?

Regardless of Harry Iauko’s doings, Tanna’s development is progressing. President Nakou Natuman outlined a list of accomplishments — malaria eradication, roadworks, building projects, the extension of the electricity network to the airport – on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the province.

Daily Post also reports that regular international flights to Tanna Whitesands airport will begin soon. It is 13 years since Tanna was promised direct flights from New Caledonia.
