Vanuatu daily news digest | 16 Opposition barred from ParliamentPosted: November 25, 2014
Prime Minister Natuman listed the apparently 16 Opposition members who had received the million vatu so-called loans from the Leader of the Opposition this afternoon.
None of the MPs concerned have yet been found guilty of any criminal offence argued Opposition Leader Carcasses. Carcasses said that every MP was a borrower and he would reveal the names of those in Government who had borrowed from him in court.
Twenty minutes before voting the motion Carcasses deposited a letter with the Speaker.
Carcasses is to seek court intervention as a constitutional matter.
The motion passed with 27 votes for, 22 against and 1 abstention.
The named MPs were urged to leave the House. Parliament resumes tomorrow morning – as a smaller and certainly more united chamber.
