Vanuatu Daily News Digest | Vanuatu has new Prime Minister

Vanuatu has a new Prime Minister, Sato Kilman. Quite astonishingly, the motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Natuman was carried by 27 votes for and 25 against. This happened just an hour ago. The new prime minister was then elected and the contestants were Sato Kilman and Ham Lini. Kilman obtained 28 votes and Lini 22. Questions will continue to be asked until the bribery cases reach court and adjudication. However, the Digest wishes PM Kilman a good leadership.

As a regular visitor to Vanuatu and keen follower of all things Vanuatu centred including its politics I am astounded at the speed of which the leadership changes. Whilst I could never reconcile in my mind the Carcasses leadership, it seemed that Prime Minister Natuman was the right man at the right time for the job and lead the country admirably throughout his tenure and in particular during the crises of cyclone Pam.

I can only imagine that this will impede progress and stability rather than aid it.
