New Air Vanuatu ATR-72-600 to begin service next week

The new ATR-72-600 for Air Vanuatu arrives in Port Vila on Monday, when there will be a welcome ceremony at the airport. The aircraft, Air Vanuatu’s first 600 model, will provide domestic services as well as regional routes such as the one to Tontouta, New Caledonia. (Daily Post)

The National Coordinator of the Custom Land Management Act says it is “necessary to increase the [Department of] Lands budget and revisit the new Act to facilitate a peaceful process towards resolving land disputes.” Alicta Vuti made the statement after being threatened in relation to a land dispute at a packed Pekoa terminal, Santo, a week ago. The matter concerned a dispute over land in south-east Santo. He told media that he and his staff have often been victims of threatening action over cases during the long time he has been in office. He sees a budgetary increase able to ensure security. Justice DG Bebe and Internal Affairs Minister Maoh were both present at different stages of the recent incident. (Daily Post)

The Australian Government assistance to provide access to fresh water has now embraced Matarisu, Emua and Siviri on the north coast of Efate. Over Vt 246 million has gone to water system repair and modification under the heading of recovery from Cyclone Pam. Minister Regenvanu and Deputy High Commissioner Simon Flores were on hand on Wednesday for the opening of the project at Matarisu. (Daily Post)
